Building a Home
The Oak Floor
We wanted to be able to have the dinning room far enough along so that we could have Christmas dinner at our house this year so we decided to go ahead and start on the oak floors only in the original part of the house. Since there was a rather small doorway leading from the original part into the 1920's part we figured that we could have an oak threshold there instead of continuing the oak planks out through the doorway into the next room.
We are using 3" wide by 3/4" thick red oak tung & groove in varying lengths.
OK, a pictorial story in a nutshell. . . . .
We have finished the dining room.
We finished the living room/parlor yesterday and this morning I am applying the Stain. We are using golden oak at half strength.
John is applying the first coat of sealer/varnish.
And here we are, the first part of our solid oak flooring is done. Granted it is less than 1/4 of all the flooring that we need to install, but the dining room will be far enough along that we can have Christmas dinner at our house this year. And that made us very happy.
